The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) showed support for Senate bills that aim to build nursing homes and local care centers for senior citizens nationwide. The public hearing was held on 29 September 2025 by the Senate Committee on Social Justice, Welfare and Development, led by Sen. Erwin Tulfo and attended by Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go.
The proposed bills, filed by Senators Robinhood Padilla, Alan Peter Cayetano, Joel Villanueva, Sherwin Gatchalian, and Lito Lapid, seek to provide better care for elderly Filipinos, especially those who are homeless, abandoned, or neglected.
Acting Executive Director Ana Marie C. Calapit and representatives from the NCSC attended the hearing to express the Commission's support.
Director Calapit emphasized the need for sustainable and inclusive care systems and assured lawmakers of NCSC’s commitment to protect the welfare and dignity of senior citizens.
In addition to NCSC's support for the creation of more nursing homes, the Commission also highlighted the need to strengthen family and community-based care to make the program more inclusive and effective. ■
