The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) has successfully completed the initial screening of applicants for the Community Tour-Guiding Project in Intramuros on 03 September 2025 at the Clock Tower, Manila City Hall.

A total of 64 senior citizens from the City of Manila joined the activity, which aims to engage them in community-based tourism and to provide livelihood and employment opportunities.

The screening was jointly facilitated by NCSC and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Manila, and its Public Employment Service Office (PESO), to assess applicants and identify qualified senior citizens for the next phase of training with the Department of Tourism (DOT).

NCSC Chairperson and CEO Dr. Mary Jean P. Loreche said the project affirms that senior citizens remain productive and eager to contribute to the community.

“To our dear Manileños, we are excited to work with you as we journey towards an age-friendly Intramuros where senior citizens can work, contribute, and truly belong,” Dr. Loreche said.

Also present during the event is PESO-Manila Director Hiroshi Umeda who emphasized the collaborative efforts of the City of Manila to provide employment opportunities for the senior citizens by engaging with the local enterprises.

One of the applicants is Ms. Fe Rojas, a 71 year-old retired Fitness Coach.

She shared that joining the program is her way of revitalizing purpose after working years abroad.

She now looks forward to tour guiding as a chance to inspire and prove that retirement is not the end, but the start of new opportunities.

The NCSC will endorse the assessed applicants to DOT for profiling on 08-12 September 2025. Selected candidates will undergo a free 7-day Community Tour Guiding Seminar on 24 September to 02 October 2025.

Successful applicants will then undergo DOT accreditation process as DOT-Accredited Community Tour Guides in Intramuros.r Guides in Intramuros this year. ■
