The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) convened a roundtable discussion with key implementing agencies and stakeholders on Friday, 20 June 2025, to bolster the implementation of its livelihood program for senior citizens in the National Capital Region.
Representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Tourism (DOT), Public Employment Service Office (PESO), and the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) – Manila participated in the meeting.
NCSC Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mary Jean Loreche presented the convergence initiative framework, emphasizing the need for synchronized action to uplift senior citizens through enterprise, skills development, and market access. Dr. Loreche highlighted that empowering older Filipinos to remain economically active not only promotes their dignity and well-being but also aligns with the government’s broader goal of inclusive and sustainable growth.
Participating national agencies shared their existing policies and programs related to the employment and economic inclusion of senior citizens.
The discussion also explored potential support mechanisms to enhance the initiative’s sustainability. Among the proposed efforts is the organization of a Senior Citizens Livelihood Fair, which aims to showcase and promote the products and services created by senior entrepreneurs.
The NCSC announced plans to conduct a series of follow-up meetings with additional stakeholders to further refine the program’s guidelines and ensure its long-term success.
