In observance of National Disaster Resilience Month, the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) participated in SM Cares' culmination activity of the Emergency Preparedness Forum for Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), held on 10 July 2025 at SM North EDSA.

The event is part of a nationwide push to equip vulnerable groups with life-saving knowledge and skills in times of disaster.

The forum highlighted the importance of inclusive disaster preparedness, bringing together key government agencies, local officials, and private sector partners in a collaborative effort to protect communities, especially senior citizens and PWDs.

In her message, NCSC Chairperson and CEO Dr. Mary Jean Loreche shared the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that no Filipino senior is left behind when it comes to safety and preparedness.

Dr. Loreche has also expressed NCSC’s full support for initiatives that put our seniors at the forefront of resilience.

NCSC salutes seniors who have participated in the said nationwide seminar and acknowledges SM Cares for their unwavering commitment to the welfare of our Filipino elderly.

The event opened with messages from key stakeholders, including SM Cares Program Director Engr. Bien C. Mateo who emphasized that disaster preparedness must be inclusive.

At the last part of the program, experts from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), PAGASA, and PHIVOLCS led sessions, as well as a live demonstration, on natural disasters and calamities.

NCSC, SM Cares, and other government agencies have been conducting such meetings to intensify partnership in championing our seniors.

The NCSC’s active participation in this event reflects its broader mandate to promote the welfare, safety, and rights of Filipino senior citizens, particularly in high-risk situations. ■
