The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) continue to stand united in their commitment to protect, uplift, and honor Indigenous senior citizens across the country, in celebration of the National Indigenous Peoples Month 2025.
During the culmination of NCIP’s week-long event “Himig at Kultura ng Katutubo,” held on 10 October 2025 at Ayala Malls Feliz, NCSC Acting Executive Director Ana Marie C. Calapit highlighted the vital role elderly Indigenous Peoples (IPs) play in preserving cultural heritage and strengthening community values.
“We express our deepest appreciation to our Indigenous senior citizens for your lifelong devotion to community and culture. Your influence continues to shape daily life and preserve traditions that endure across generations,” said Dir. Calapit.
She also reaffirmed NCSC’s unwavering commitment to fostering inclusive spaces where Indigenous elders are valued, protected, and actively engaged in both community and national development.
Members of the Tribal Communities Association of the Philippines (TRICAP), including senior citizens, actively participated in the week-long celebration of culture, heritage, and unity.
Together, the NCSC and NCIP reiterated their dedication to championing the rights and welfare of senior citizens among the country’s estimated 9.84 million Indigenous peoples (PSA, 2020).
The celebration of Indigenous Peoples Month coincides with the NCSC’s Elderly Filipino Week, during which various services and activities are extended to Indigenous communities nationwide. ■
