The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) and SM Cares will formalize their shared commitment to promoting the rights, welfare, and dignity of senior citizens through a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on July 21, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City.
This strategic partnership outlines joint efforts in advocacy campaigns, inclusive programs, capacity-building initiatives, and community engagement activities for the elderly.
Key officials from both organizations will be in attendance, including NCSC Chairperson and CEO Dr. Mary Jean P. Loreche, and representatives from SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls, known for championing programs for vulnerable sectors.
As part of the agreement, NCSC and SM Cares commit to the following initiatives:
1. Senior Citizens Inclusive Employment Program
Offer employment opportunities for senior citizens and disseminate job openings from SM Malls and its tenants through local government units (LGUs), including OSCA and PESO.
2. Support for Livelihood Programs and Projects
Promote learning, skills development, and participation among seniors, ensuring that support and assistance are effectively and responsibly implemented by recipient associations or organizations.
3. Partnership for Event Venues
Provide free and accessible venues for Elderly Filipino Week, livelihood and trade fairs, and other senior-related activities. Assistance will be extended to senior citizens’ groups organizing or participating in these events.
In addition to these commitments, the Emergency Preparedness Forum for Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities will be held annually, with SM Cares serving as the lead organizer.
This long-term collaboration reflects a shared vision and a whole-of-nation approach to building a society where every Filipino senior lives with dignity, inclusion, and active participation.
