NCSC to Strengthen Awareness on Alzheimer's Disease, Dementia, and Stroke Among Senior Citizens

The National Commision of Senior Citizens (NCSC) is committed to enhance the welfare, wellness, and overall quality of life for senior citizens nationwide. This commitment includes collaborative efforts with key stakeholders, such as the Alzheimer's Disease Association of the Philippines (ADAP). On 6 August 2025, Dr. Mary Jean P. Loreche, Chairperson and CEO of NCSC, engaged in discussions with Dr. Alvin Rae Cenina, President of ADAP, and Dr. Michelle Anlacan, Director of ADAP, at the Philippine General Hospital.

Recognizing the increasing prevalence of an aging population, the NCSC is initiating a transformative collaboration designed to reinforce preventive measures and enhance productive engagement for senior citizens. She stated, “We are enthusiastic about these awareness initiatives regarding Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and stroke, as they address urgent concerns faced by our senior citizens. Collaboration with ADAP is essential.”

ADAP, an organization composed of person with dementia and their family caregivers, dedicated doctors with special interest in dementia, allied – medical professionals and other involved in the care of patients with Alzheimer’s Disease, is equally eager to partner with NCSC to accelerate their awareness campaign, develop support services, and advance culturally sensitive local research with the help of NCSC’s regional offices.

Dr. Loreche expressed unwavering support for ADAP’s advocacy, highlighting its alignment with NCSC’s mission. She emphasized that these awareness campaigns will facilitate early detection of diseases and assist seniors and their families in understanding the necessary preventive and curative care.

Consequently, ADAP’s initiatives will be part of NCSC’s services at the community level, broadening their outreach across various regions and utilizing NCSC’s radio program and social media platforms to enhance public engagement.

A series of strategic meetings will be conducted to lobby the National Dementia Plan, as well as to collaborate on additional policies and programs that foster the health and wellness of senior citizens.
