What is a Senior Citizens Center?
The increasing population of older persons in the Philippines underscores the need for structured community-based support systems. In response, Republic Act No. 7876 mandates the establishment of a Senior Citizens Center (SCC) in every city and municipality to serve as a venue for socialization, health promotion, livelihood support, and community participation.
The SCC operationalizes the State’s policy of promoting the welfare, dignity, and active participation of senior citizens through accessible and integrated services at the local level.
A Senior Citizens Center (SCC) is a designated facility within a city or municipality that provides:
-
Recreational and socio-cultural activities
-
Health and wellness services
-
Spiritual enrichment programs
-
Livelihood and self-employment assistance
-
Volunteer engagement opportunities
