In an inclusive meeting shared over a breakfast forum, the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) met with Capitol Christian Leadership (CCL) members on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, to exchange hopes in building a more inclusive society for the elderly.
NCSC Chairperson and CEO Dr. Mary Jean Loreche led the forum and discussed the commission's urgency over pressing issues in an aging population.
From limited access to healthcare, poverty, isolation, to insufficient age-friendly infrastructure, Dr. Loreche noted that community-driven support is essential now more than ever.
Among the key points NCSC raised was the ongoing effort to pass the Magna Carta for Senior Citizens— a landmark legislation to constitute all the benefits and rights of the elderly.
NCSC also mentioned its advocacy for the criminalization of violence against older persons. Through its Senior Citizens Community Care Centers (SC3Cs), the commission is bringing this sensitive issue to the forefront.
The fellowship group in Quezon City warmly welcomed NCSC’s various initiatives, including the livelihood program for seniors.
Senior members, with some retired professionals, have also pledged their support for the commission’s vision for fellows.
CCL Chairperson and CEO Commodore Oscar T. Garcia expressed their plan to allocate P200K for an outreach program in their chosen home for the aged.
NCSC welcomes this step as it will contribute to a footprint in a community where no one is left behind.
Garcia believes that being empowered is essential at any stage of life, and it’s even more crucial as people advance in years.
Moreover, the group leader also highlighted that aging should be respected in decision-making and honored in the transfer of cultural knowledge.
NCSC has been true to its commitment to reach out to different senior-led and senior-centered organizations in continuously promoting the dignity and well-being of older persons.
