With the desire to remain part of the nation-building, the senior citizens' league in Bulacan gathered for a pivotal meeting with the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) on Tuesday, 24 June 2025.
The said gathering aims to strengthen the commission's grassroots programs and services for the senior citizens through the help of senior-led groups.
NCSC Chairperson and CEO Dr. Mary Jean Loreche acknowledges the organization’s vital role and the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) in empowering fellow elderly.
According to Dr. Loreche, the NCSC’s mission not only revolves around overseeing, but to also equip the community leaders for its constituents.
Some league members have shared their sentiments and were reassured of the commission’s all-out support for the sector.
For the implementation of the Expanded Centenarians Act, the NCSC assured senior citizens that it remains free from political influence and further emphasized that cash gift distribution reaches the intended beneficiaries.
On the social pension for indigent seniors, Dr. Loreche clarifies that the program remains under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). However, she assured that if this will be transferred to the NCSC, streamlined efforts would be made.
NCSC is committed to working closely with the local government to resolve such concerns and eliminate bureaucratic delays.
For the NCSC and senior citizens in Bulacan, the meeting was more than an administrative discussion— it was a wake-up call that senior years can still be filled with purpose.
